Near the border of Golestan and Turkmenistan lies a cemetery known as Khalid Nabi where surprisingly in spite of common cultural and religious considerations in the country, the tombstones have made in the form of male and female sexual organs. It is said that there are more than 600 tombstones of various sizes shaped penis and breast.
Presenting an entirely distinguished and scare form of tombstones, leading to a conscious ignorance, background of the Khalid Nabi cemetery has not been the subject of research therefore the secret behind the site has been strengthened. But beside all the popular perceptions, in 1979 David Stronach visited the site and categorized the tombstones into two main groups of column-shaped and human-shaped groups.
Khalid Nabi cemetery is now known as a different and strange tourist attraction making many tourists interested in visiting the site. If you feel so, take the chance to visit the cemetery by taking a trip to Gonbad kavoos a city in northeast of Golestan province crossing a 40 mile path to reach the site.
In fact the place is also famous for including a shrine being home of a tomb belonged to a Yemenish christian prophet buried in the 4th century.
The best time to visit the site will be actually in spring when the greenish hills and fields can take your breaths away by encompassing you with picturesque awe-inspiring landscapes all in green.
