Resting on the southern shores of Caspian Sea, expanding from Ardabil to Golestan province, Caspian Hyrcanian forests are known due to dating back to 40 million years ago and having specified species. The forest covers 55000 square km which is included in five northern provinces of Iran including Mazandaran, Gilan, Golestan, Northern Khorasan and Ardabil. A part of the area is considered as a protected area called Golestan national park and the rest includes forest lands.
